The first youth exchange between young people from Poland and Ukraine on the theme: “Galicia and Europe. Let’s Discover our Common Identity “took place from October 21 to 28, 2016. Twenty young people from the Ukrainian and Polish sides became the participants of the project, which lasted not far from the town of Tarnow (Poland).

During the week, active youth, together with the trainers, tried to find answers to the questions: what is the identity, how it manifests itself, how stereotypes are born and how they can be destroyed by moving to a whole new level of communication and perception of information.

Every day there were workshops, lectures and debates. In particular, on organizational capacity, international institutions and the identity of Galicia, analysis of business in two countries, language research, analysis of historical facts, etc. Participants got acquainted with the culture of their regions and had a great opportunity to see and understand how similar, seemingly, to different languages, customs, traditions and values.

Within the framework of the project, trips were organized to Krakow and Tarnuva in order to further penetrate the atmosphere of the local lifestyle. For participants, active leisure was envisaged: volleyball, football, tennis, Polish and Ukrainian dances and karaoke evenings during which it was possible to discuss important issues in a less formal setting.

As a result, the main goal of the project was achieved, because it was important not only to find a common identity, but also to develop the ideas of fruitful cooperation in the future, which is planned to be implemented in several stages. The next will start shortly and will consist of a series of educational events in schools in the Lviv region and the start of building a platform for further cooperation and development of the idea.

Galicia and Europe project. Let’s Discover our common identity “is implemented within the framework of the Ukrainian-Polish Youth Exchange Council and with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sport of Ukraine.
