International Model UN 2017 ELUMUN
On April 6-9, the 3rd International Model UN “ELUMUN” took place in Lviv, an educational simulation game, which involved 100 students from Ukraine, Latvia, Estonia and Poland. Within four days the participants simulated the work of key United Nations organizations on the theme of the Global Sustainable Development Goals. Participation in such an event develops leadership skills, critical thinking, ability to conduct constructive dialogue and defend one’s own position as well as an increase in awareness in global political processes.
Model UN is modeled after the example of the special committees of the actual organization, this year the work included the UN Security Council, the UN Human Rights Council and the Economic and Social Council. The program included lectures from experts on security, economics, diplomacy and law.
The event was organized by the NGO “Institute of Social Initiatives” in cooperation with the National Commissions of UNESCO in Latvia and Estonia, the Institute of Economics and Management of the National University “Lvivska Politekhnika” with the support of the Estonian Embassy in Ukraine. This is the third time an event of similar format was created. The previous years were held in Latvia and Estonia, where young people from the participating countries showed a high level of interest and the dissemination of similar educational initiatives.
